mobile medical clinic

The Philippines has a population of 113.80 million people, and according to the Department of Health, 50% of the population does not have access to primary healthcare facilities [1]. The primary reasons are the scarcity and maldistribution of health facilities in many parts of the country and the cost of hospital check-ups . Imagine someone dying just because they can’t afford and access the country’s healthcare system.

On March 5, 2022, I was asked to go to Ilocos Sur for this year’s first Mobile Medical Clinic Project funded by CTCA. It was held in Barangay Caterman, Candon City, a far flung baranggay in Ilocos Sur with some 2,652 people. Through this project, the poorest of poor families living in these communities ,and others who are not able to see a doctor, are given free medical consultation, a free checkup, supplied with free vitamins and medicines and given free counselling.

BEHIND PRISON WALLS
I chanced upon a friend of a friend in Facebook and got connected to Create the Change Australasia. I asked if it would be possible for a car group to collaborate with any charity event they currently have and that we as a group really have no idea in this kind of thing.

After our outreach in Pasay City Jail, the team went to Manila City Jail.
It was raining hard and there were flooded roads. There weren't any parking spaces for the volunteering cars but we were able to push through with one car.
When the team got there, they brought the remaining Care Packs and went to see the Sewing Machine donated towards the livelihood of the inmates in the male dorm.
The wardens and the inmates are very grateful for the donation, it surely helped them produce quality canvass bags, police uniform, bedsheets, face masks and other sewings.
